hi folks
maybe you can help this ole geezer out.
ECS-K7S5A
AMD XP1700+ w/volcano6cu+hsf
512MB PC2100DDR (crucial)

Problem:
i get nothing when i switch this machine on... no lights, beeps, fans, etc... i've even tried it outside the case.
the psu checks OK with the green wire test at atx plug (although it may be lacking... rated 14a@3.3v) a better psu is in the works.

i'm new to this game and have no spare components to swap around and no way of testing components in another "known good" machine.
could this mainboard be defected?

all advice will be greatly appreciated.
thx, thegeeze

If you're not getting any power at all, then it's probably a dead psu. post again after you try the new power supply.

i put together a box for a friend a K7S5A, Athlon 1.3G (stock HSF) the thing had thermal issues (SX-1040 case 3x 80mm fans) he has no A/C at his house in a FL summer (ouch) had the thing clocked back to 1.0G stable, then at a LAN party, the HSF fan blew ("something's burning" ) repaced the stock with a coolermaster and it's fine, only probs i've had with it.

yes, I would strongly reccomend a quality brand name psu, enermax, toptower or antec by prefrence, 350W unit or greater.
Those ECS motherboards are particulary Picky about their power requirements. Its gotta be good.

ive had problems with the k7s5a, but not a DOA board... the first one was a problem with the memory the second board was a problem with the PCI and the third was the AGP, all problems were fixed with a new board

I second the "get a better power supply" post. ECS boards need lots of clean power. For some reason they're power hungry.
