First off, the computer in question is a P3 450 with 384MB of ram running WIN98SE.

With the old Starfighter 8mb AGP video card installed, the monitor was fine running at 800x600.

I installed a geforce 2 GTS 32mb and now the screen is acting like the refresh rate is wrong. I have tried changeing the refresh rate to no avail. I have re-installed the drivers more than once, and have had to go back to the old vid card.

Any ideas?? The monitor is a 14" NEC MultiSync 2A.

How old is that monitor?

I had an old multisync monitor (not an NEC) that is interlaced only. It doesn't normally work with my Geforce cards which default to non-interlaced resolutions. I made it work using Powerstrip and forcing the video card into an interlaced mode.

The problem was I needed to use a newer monitor to see what I was doing before I could hook up the old monitor.

Yes you can download Powerstrip. I think this is the correct website.

There is a shareware version.

I can't remember how to set the interlace modes offhand and I'm not at my computer right now.

I think it's somewhere under device profile or something like that. (I haven't used powerstrip for quite a while).

I did the same since I haven't used Powerstrip for a while.

I discovered my present monitor doesn't seem to support anything but non-interlace modes which reminds me to mention this. The safety recovery hotkeys are CTRL + ALT + S. Just so you know, in case you pick an invalid monitor frequency (like I did LOL).

I learned the hotkeys only after I messed up my display and was forced to boot to DOS and then delete the PSTRIP.INI file so I could get back into Windows).

Powerstrip is more complicated than I thought when it comes to selecting custom timing. You might want to look for detailed specs on your NEC 2A.

Good luck.

Thanks. I just might need that. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, hopefully tonight.
