Hi all

Recently completed both these games (I know I'm behind the times lol)

Not sure if its been noted, but did anyone else thing that the first 80% of
Doom III was pretty dreary but the last couple of levels and ending were
great, but with HL2 the first 80% was fantastic and the last couple levels
and ending were pants? After playing Doom III first and HL, I was hoping the
end levels of HL2 would have been similar, but I'm sure I wasn't the only
person dissopointed with the end after possibilty the best 10 hours of
gaming I had before hand.

Whats the next great FPS I should be looking out for?

Best Regards
Mike

Doom 3 didn't have much of a storyline to begin with. That's why the last
20% seems to be better.

HL2 has a great storyline, but the final 20% seems to be just as railroaded
as before - in spite of having a squad that you lead to the citadel walls,
you're still railroaded. The most common theory was that it was taking too
long to develop, and Valve decided to short-cut the puzzle of ascending
through the citadel.

BF2 is coming up next... Other than that, nothing too major.

Steam won't let the teenager pirate his favorite game, HL2, so he comes
to this newsgroup daily to complain about steam, and console games to, which
also don't allow for easy copying of games.

Please, don't reply to his posts, most of us here are just trying to ignore
him until he goes away.

DOOM3 did get better in the second half of the game. Though I found
HL2 to be consistently good. The end level and the gameplay change
that happened in its level was superb.

I'd say that DOOM3's plot and story progression, while lacking any
originality, was the best among that of all FPS in 2004. It was very
well supported by the audio-logs, emails and occassional cut-scenes.

FEAR, STALKER, HL2:Aftermath, Quake4 etc.

first let me make a small introduction of what steam is...
steam is a technology is the shape of program that basically
takes control over the way you buy, play and patch pc games
its a complete revolution and by far the biggest one ever in
pc games since its start, over a decade ago
it was created by a developer/publisher called valve and has
been introduced last year when the release of half-life 2

now about what is the problem with it...
steam is all wrong! all rotten! all bad!
but there are 4 main issues with steam that make it the very
absolute in damage to us pc gamers

first issue - killing the physical medium
steam wants to change the paradigm of buying packaged retail
box pc games in stores and turn it into a download software
service
me and millions of others who love to own a game in physical
format are threatened by valve desire to kill it
its unacceptable

second issue - forcing internet access as mandatory requirement
a 3d graphic card, lots of memory and a fast processor are all
reasonable requirements to play single play pc games, but net
access will never be! never will i accept internet access as
a mandatory requirement to play single player pc games!
its unacceptable

third issue - playing pc games will no longer be anonymous
valve with steam kills us playing pc games anonymous and do a
rude violation of our privacy forcing us to "ask for permission"
to play a game and even requiring giving our own email address
its unacceptable

fourth issue - playing habits controled by a program and not us
with steam you no longer control anything related to the game
you play when valve wants to you, you patch when valve wants to
you, basically the control is taken from you and given to a
program called steam which acts like a spy in your own pc!
its unacceptable

there are many more issues... many more... but these are enough
for you and me and every single pc gamers that still wants to be
able to buy, play, patch pc games with freedom and dignity say no
to steam!
join us against valve!
boycott any steam infected game!
spread the word about how damaging steam is!
protect promote and defend your favorite hobby
long live pc games steam free!

i said "NO" to valve and steam

That seemed to have soooooo much wasted, that citadel had loads of things
in it which we just flew past... It was like half the monsters in the game..

I think that some of the creatures in the citadel were half-finished
things that Valve decided not to use in the main parts of the game.
There's a chance some of them will play a part in the expansion though;
less work for Valve seeing they have models and some animations still
available.
