I just saw FEAR for sale on Amazon, it didn't say pre-order either. The
stated ship date was one to two weeks. I don't know if I want to pre-order
anything after getting burned so bad on Doom3. Is FEAR out? Did I miss an
announcement in this newsgroup?

The MP has been in closed beta on Fileplanet for a couple of weeks now.
Usually, when this happens, there is an open MP demo after several
weeks. So, it could be possible it will be shipping in a few weeks.
However, I would not go by Amazon dates, they don't really distinguish
between pre-order and actual shipping. They are more like a
placeholder, saying a game will become available at some time. They
have done this with a lot of games. Gamespot and Ebgames are much more
reliable for shipping dates, not infallible, but usually more
dependable and their actual ship dates more firm as the game actually
gets closer to shipping.

FEAR ain't out yet, it looks awesome though.

The multiplayer Beta absolutley stinks though, but hopefully this is due
to its Beta-ness.

Don't preorder !!

According to Ebgames it ships on 11 October 2005.

Wait for reports from the guinea-pigs ( er, I mean the early
purchasers ). Don't rely on the paid advertising (er, I mean
magazine reviews ).

One good thing --- since it comes from Vivendi, it is very unlikely to
use Steam !! Always a wise thing to check on the copy-protection for
any Single-player game to buy these days. Less advertised me-too's of
Steam will pop up.

Especially if you see on the box that the Single-player component
REQUIRES an Internet connection. Or, more sneakily, you see "Requires
an Internet connection" with that requirement not being specifically
attached to the MP component.

Caveat Emptor---- let the buyer beware..........

you are usually accurate in what you write so i got a little
bit worried after reading this...
yes starforce is a pain... but the only type of games we all
should boycott are those with steam and there is only one
with it half-life 2 and it will be taken out of the market by
end of august and then there is prey but that will only be a
2006 release... so i'm very intrigued with your post... do you
know something we don't? are you warning about more bad news
coming soon to pc games? will fear be the one to bring those
bad news?
