Maxtor or IBM

hi,

I`m trying to find out which hd is the best.
I`ve got two choices left:
the:
IBM Deskstar 120GXP, 80Gb, IDE, 7200rpm U-ATA100
and the
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X 80Gb 7200rpm U-ATA133

I know maxtor has the ata133, but that`s not really interesting at the moment.
So does anyone has any exp with either?

thx

The purpose of war is not to die for your country, but to let the other die for his.

More about : maxtor ibm

i think the IBM 120GXP is the better drive over Maxtor for a few reasons.
1/ performance in IDE and as a drive in a RAID Array clearly outperforms the Maxtor
2/ The IBM has much quieter seek noise compared to the Maxtor
3/ The IBM also runs cooler.
Off course most will say reliability is a factor with the IBM drives as to which I agree, but Im sure IBM has this under control with the 120GXP series.Look forward to some comments.

Computers remind me of Murphy's law:- whatever can go wrong, it's always associated with a computer!

The new IBM drives are supposed to be more reliable than the older Deathstar's. Check out www.pcpro.co.uk (under 'Labs') for a very recent review of major hard drives. IBM came in top of the pile.

I must admit I personally prefer Maxtor, only because two IBM 13GB drives died on me.

  I fart in the face of normality

IBM drives have a sad unreliability history.
I'd avoid them for the time being and wait for better results.
