Has anyone had any good or bad experience using the TH55's wifi
capabilities to access an 802.11g router or access point?

I realize the TH55 will only function at 802.11b speed. But in spite
of 802.11g's supposed backwards-compatibility with 802.11b clients,
I've heard of other wifi handhelds not working with 802.11g
routers/access points.

Thanks,
Ethan

W H Y ?

For MP3, images, movies and other non-productive entertainment 128MB
wouldn't be enough anyway, and a SD/MS would be a very easy and cost-
effective solution.

For just about everything else I can think of, 32MB, heck even 16MB, is
enough.

The prices that I see appear to be the same as what I previously
remembered. Where did the price drop significantly?

Indeed. Sony's own price (and MSRP) is $399, and I haven't seen it below
$350 anywhere.

The UX40, on the other hand, is down from $549 to $299 at both Fry's and
CompUSA.

I agree with what you mean. but in my case, using MapSonic
on a productive basis, the 32MB are un minimum for keeping
all my apps in the TH55 memory. With only half the memory,
I should had to install quite all my apps on the memory stick
(I like Powerun, for this purpose); with the 32MB, I can avoid
this, and keep the MS only for the large databases.

I think like you for the mp3, video, etc., which I finally don't
play on my PDA. Even with very very large memory cards,
and not speaking of their price, it remains a gadget, for me
and at this time, without cheap storage solution of a few GB.

I agree, but only to a certain extent. 32 megs is all I need for a
PDA. But the cost of memory is so cheap. You can buy 512 megs of DDR
SDRAM for US $45 at circuit city for a desktop PC......so really, it
seems stupid to put only a measily 32 megs in a PDA. 128 megs wouldn't
cost that much to have it in a PDA

it, some of us do. and i agree with christopher it shouldnt cost that much
to do so.

For anyone else who was wondering about this - I had no problems
connecting the TH55 to a Linksys 802.11g access point.

I have no problems with a dLink 802.11g router either...

I may have missed some of this thread, but does everyone know about Sony's
Wi-Fi update? It reports to fix connection issues "with certain wireless
access points".

Also if you are having problems connecting, try turning off powersave mode
from the advanced tab of the wi-fi network settings.
