So who's side would you have voted on the kid that
they arrested in SVU last night or the adult who
"supposedly" got them to kill the woman....
Basically the story revolved around this game where
you were supposed to then get out the car to finish
them off. Bonus points for stealing things like
their purse or wallet off of them.
The crim in last night's SVU said the computer game
made them do it don't forget which seemed to be
somewhat proved in the story last night, up to a point
I thnk....
I'm in two minds about this and this argument has
been raging since the very first kung fu game on
the old commodore 64

I think... Politicians and Journalists should avoid video games at all cost.

In most cases I would agree with you but the media
seem to love this kind of thing, moreso if it
actually happens in real life too.
I've heard stories that the Columbine shootings were
linked in part to a video game.
Come to think of it had Jack The Ripper been alive today
his lawyer would probably also find some link to games
as well to explain his actions, no doubt.

Well, they might have been, but then, they were also linked in part to
eating food.

Well, it certainly warped _my_ mind. It tooks years before I could get
enjoyment out of another driving game again. GTA3 cured me :-)
I still hold the opinion that any driving game that doesn't involve
guns or other weaponry simply isn't worth playing <g>

Yes they do. That's sort of what we're discussing.

No. It happens in the Journalists' minds.
Except for that one time when a guy who played 'Manhunt' got brutally
murdered.

Just picked up Burnout 3 for $20 (Greatest Hits rules!), and I have to
say it's a definite exception to that rule. Unless you count the car
itself as a weapon, of course...
I can't believe how awesome Burnout 3 is. I would have paid full price
and felt like I got my money's worth, but now that it's GH, anyone
who's even remotely interested in driving games needs to pick it up.
Late to the party,

I admit that Burnout is in a gray area that might very well contain
some acceptable games :-)

Nothing new here, it's just the current incarnation of the old "the
devil made me do it" excuse.
It's been "raging" since long before video games existed.
Heaven forbid they should actually accept the consequences of their own
decisions/actions.
The devil/movie/song/game/etc made me do it.
No it wasn't me choosing to do it, no sir, something else MADE me do it,
so i'm not responsible, so you can't punish me.

It has. There were two kids that were sniping at highway traffic, then
tried to blame the game. The media believed them, ignoring the fact that
they were supposed to be able to know what they did was worng.
I've also seen media linking a murder to a horror book, based on the fact
that the parts of the murdered body was found in basically the same
configuration as described in the book.

It was, mainly incorrectly. Somehow, they linked the shotgun's name
"Arlene" to a character in the original Doom game - I've yet to see that
character appear, in spite of having full access to Doom's content.
