Single or Dual IDE setup?

I was wondering since my motherboard has two IDE ports on it, would there be a difference with hooking up my hard drive and CD-ROM drive singularly to the motherboard by using both IDE ports, or should I keep my current configuration of using a Dual IDE cable and having both drives hooked up to one port? Thanks in advance!

This is one I can answer. You will get greater performance by connecting the CD to one IDE port and the drive to the second. Take a look at the article on the home page and read the first part on IDE drives.

If hooked up on ONE IDE channel, then only one drive can be accessed at a time. Keep them separate.
