Don't know if this has been posted before but I wonder what the
strategy is here.

Writing a 1Gb expansion pack isn't cheap and I wonder if they're trying
to garner interest in RS4?

I installed and it it's obviouly more of the same.

Ecstatic reactions like that, I think, are exactly what they're
looking for.

Depends on how you look at it.

It's better IMO than Athena Sword and you had to pay for that.

The AI is the same, the maps are more varied, new weapons are nothing
special, multiplay maps are better, multiplay modes are much improved.

For the cost of a download, it certainly is worth it.

It's easy to fill 1GB - there's plenty of textures and characters available
in the base package that most of the work is already done. Size is also
meaningless, as demonstrated by kkrieger (96KB).

BTW, most of the work was already done beforehand - it's much easier to
create a map pack with a short story especially when you don't have to
create as many weapons and characters.

It's a great way to find newcomers - if a new player likes the game, he's
likely to see how the prequel was like (or the sequel).

It's supposed to be a "thank you" to the "loyal" R6 fan base who endured
some awful support for Raven Shield.

If you were more cynical, you might look at it and think it's potential
sales figures might be severely affected by an extremely unhappy existing
customer base, and a future customer base that is looking ahead to R6:
Lockdown in a few months rather than a rather dated looking expansion.

Never-the-less, a cool free download.
