Hi Everyone,

I have installed a small 1.2Gb HDD as a slave. The drive is listed in the CMOS and also in the device manager. However, it does not have an icon in the Windows directory and therefore can't be accessed. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is your HDD new (ie unformatted before installation)? What file system was it formatted in? Make sure it is FAT as Win98SE can't recognise HDD formatted in other types of file system.

Maybe you can use Partition Magic 7, it will detect your HD and try to create there. I have face this problem before. Hope it will help you up~!!

They are right, it sounds like the drive isn't formatted. If you have partition magic, you can use that. You can get Part free from www.ranish.com, it is a pretty good little utility. Or you can always just use good old Fdisk.

Hopefully that will get everything working.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your advice. Unfortunately nothing seems to work. I'll try the HDD in another machine. Thanks.
