Just bought a Pioneer 104 dvd-r/rw, I just wanted some advice on the basics. I have sucessfully installed it and it seems to be running fine, I have installed the latest version of Nero. I tried to make a dvd iso using Nero, it got to about 6% then failed due to a communication error. Dma mode is enabled and my pioneer is set as the master drive on my secondary IDE port, I tried to burn at 1X speed. I was just wondering if I have missed something, its very expensive to try trial and error with dvd-r's, any help would be greatly appriciated.

Be patient! You'll get an answer soon - hopefully one which satisifies you!

You don't mention which operating-system you use. Nor do you mention if you have attempting upgrading the firmware, or ran any diagnostics!

Might be a wise idea to try upgrading the firmware... .

I think http://www.ahead.de/ has diagnostics software.

Try setting your DMA down to PIO4 mode. The Pioneer 104 doesn't seem to like UDMA modes. Buy a dvd-rw for testing the modes and such until you get one your system likes. Much cheaper than buying a bunch of dvd-r coasters.
