Routers

I have an ethernet port in the wall in my uni room which allows me to use the internet when i plug an ethernet cable between the port and a laptop etc. Is it possible to plug a router into the ethernet port so that I can have wireless internet in the room? Thanks

  1. More than likely it will work fine.

Make sure they do not have a rule against it. If there is a rule that says you should not they can easily detect the wireless and shut you down. If they are very determined it is possible to prevent a router from using a port and only allow a PC so I would not try it if they said not to do it.
  2. Okay thanks. I haven't seen any rules against using one yet. Does it have to be a special router or will a normal one work?
