Whats better? wireless b usb network adapter or computer wireless

Hello,
I found this Wireless-b usb network adapter in the apartment I moved into and I just started using it today. I am not noticing any difference and I'm beginning to think it might be made for computers without stock wireless capabilities. Is using this going to improve my new Sony VAIO's wireless capabilities or is it a waste of time?

  1. Depends on what you're measuring. If it's internet speed (e.g., SpeedTest.net), most ppl get so much less bandwidth from their ISP than even the wireless connection can support, it doesn't matter. But for *local* file transfers (machine to machine), it typically would make a difference.

Makes sense. Thanks, I appreciate the help!
