Hey team,
I have come to discover that the problem to alot of my gaming problems are because I have my sound card and Video card along with 2 network controlers all assigned to a single IRQ. I have tried changing the IRQ assignment in Win98SE but it won't let me. Anyone else had this problem and know how to solve it?
Some BIOS allow manual assignation (woo big word) of IRQs. Some have a setting for specifically assigning an IRQ to your VGA card.
One idea you may want to go with is the disabling of any unused COM ports an they each use an IRQ. Another thing I've played with is the ACPI settings in the BIOS.
Sometimes getting the BIOS to make the system set IRQs (instead of your operating system doing it) can get this fixed.
Remember, you can always revert to the old settings if they don't work, but I'd take a note of anything and everything you change!!!
Failing that lot, you may be able to manually assign them in your device manager in Windows, but I've not had much luck with this.
