Port Forwarding not working (Netgear DGND3700v2)

G'day everyone.
I'm trying to set up a Minecraft server so I can appear to be a hero to my 8 year old son.
I have to forward a port to 25565 adn I've followed all the instructions on how to do this on my netgear DGND3700v2. I've also turned off my Windows 7 firewall, but when I go to a test website, I still get a message saying the port is closed.
I don't have a static IP address, is this absolutely critical or does it just mean that the boys will have to log on to a new IP address each time they want to play?
Does anyone have any ideas what else to try? Any help gratefully received.

Your router supports dynamic DNS so that should solve the static IP problem.

The port forwarding is tough to troubleshoot remotely. You may want to use the firewalls to see if you are actually getting the traffic. You could block that port and/or the ip of the server to see if you get any messages. Some firewalls you can also see traffic that is allowed so you may be able to get it that way.
