Ok, it's out of control.

My premium is $1500 a year for a 2002 Ford SVT Focus with Liberty Mutual (used to be Prudential). That's with a good driver discount. That's more than my parents pay for 2 cars, a volvo and a mercedes.

WTF?

What does everyone else pay and who do you go through? Anybody feel like they can recommend theirs?

He wants to be called T-Bone at work, but when it comes up in a meeting, some other guy gets it. They come up with Cocoa The Monkey for George.

Oops, guess that's enough. I don't even recall what I pay for insurance.

Got to love those insurance rates. Here are some factors that may apply to your situation.

Your current driving record (tickets and accidents)
How many miles a year you drive.
Your current age.
Other drivers in the house hold that may drive the car-i.e. are not restricted from it
The type of car you drive (bet SVT is considered a sports/performance car)
Have you maintained insurance since getting your license?
Are you paying off the car from a dealership-requires very high (read expensive) coverage?
What state you live in?
What city you live in?

Suddenly, living in England has it's uses. Not many I grant you, but I sure don't pay that damn much.

Ok, but what company and have they treated you good? Some insurance companies force you to use refurbished parts and are a general pain in the ass.

USAA (military insurance)

My house has a 2000 Toyota Tundra, a 2003 Toyota Matrix, and a 1993 Toyota pickup insured with Mercurcy, with 3 people on the policy, for $3300 a year (comprehensive on the Tundra and Matrix, liability only on the pickup). $1500 really isn't that much for a new car. Is it liability only, or comprehensive (which is required if you have a loan).

I pay $12 a month for my motorcycle insurance, which is nice. But, I think that it is probably some weak ass intro price and when my policy goes up for renewal they'll try to ream me. But, if I wanted full coverage it would be around $300 a month, which is totally out of control.

Here in good ole Jersey we have some of the highest auto insurance rates in the country. I don't know about other states but in NJ you can get insurance for your fleet of cars that you use for your business. All you need to do is start a small business (it doesn't matter what it is or if it's profitable) and get your fleet. You can have a fleet of one. Voila!

I only know this because I have done it myself. The beauty of this little scheme is that you could get a plethora of tickets and your insurance premium won't go up. I suppose if you get into an accident it'll go up and may raise some eyebrows so don't crash.

I have full coverage and I pay a bit extra for rental since I got hosed when they stole my last car and I had to cover a rental for 2 weeks on top of my deductable.

Hmmm...

My father has his own business. He doesn't do that though. I should see if I can try that though since I think he has me on as an officer.

Dude, go with Mercury. I just did a quick online quote, for a 2002 SVT Focus in San Diego, and it came out to $420 a year for the highest possible coverage. That is if you have no DUI's, accidents, etc. Go to http://www.mercuryinsurance.com and do your own quote, you'll probably save money.

thx! I did a quote with progressive 6 months ago and it was a drop cheaper, but I was afraid to switch. If it's that much cheaper though I'll switch. With a few tickets it'll be a bit higher but not $1100 more I can't imagine.

Try me driving + getting into accident = 2000$ extra on insurance....

My brothers been in 2 accidents, both his fault, both reported. The funny thing is that with Mercury, our insurance rates went DOWN after each accident. I never did get that...

I have a speeding ticket at 65mph in 55mph (cop let me off easy. I was going 90mph and being reckless--nearly hit him), and a california stop ticket. I think I got dinged for MY car getting stollen too...

Reply to dhlucke

I doubt your car getting stolen directly affected anything. But, they do use your car being stolen in their statistics on developing insurance rates for that model of car, so indirectly, it does affect you.

You're lucky about that ticket. I've been driving for 7 years and have never been in an accident (that was my fault), gotten a ticket, or even been pulled over, so it's been good for me.

That was my first speeding ticket. I've gotten a ticket for an illegal lane change since I cut a cop off, and my california stop was just the cop being an a-hole since I was dressed up nice and it was obvious that I could pay the stupid ticket.

Accidents? I've been in a dozen but only one was my fault and my friends made up an aliby for me.
