Neat. What can't it do? Is it stable?
lol. He must get out alot

Well the guy who started it began in 1997 and coded it all by himself. Nowadays though there's a rather large development team, but he's still done 85% of the OS coding himself.
They're programming apps for it now. On their homepage you can see what's available and what's not. Apparently they have quite a few hardware drivers already, video, audio... Looks pretty neat, and only for $30.

ill stick with WindowsXP

It's nice to know there are a lot of alternatives though. I already run gentoo linux most of the time (even have all of my games working in it, plus a few I can't get going in windows), and I think I'll pick up SkyOS when 5.0 is released.

Do windows games work on Linux without any problems? What about Drivers, are they released at the same time as the Windows versions?
<A HREF="http://www.tubgirl.com" target="_new">Don't Click This - Please! (NSFW)</A>
A lot of them do yeah. The UT2004 cds/dvd has linux and windows installs on it. Actually, UT2004 runs faster in linux than it does in windows if you have an nvidia card. ATI's drivers work, but not quite as well in linux as they do in windows so it's a bit slower. There aren't many games that run natively in linux like UT2004 does (and UT2003/UT), but for the rest of the games you can usually use wine/winex to run them. I play CS in linux with no problems.

The linux versions of drivers are generally released at the same time, and with nvidia's graphic drivers, they are released at the same time yeah. In fact, nvidia's drivers are identical whether in linux or windows with a very minor difference of some kernel compatibilty layer.

very interesting. I can't help but see that every OS looks like a Skin of Windows. Are there any real advantages of, say using Linux, for regualar / power users like me?

answer my question damn you!

Windows was copied from the Mac OS. The look isn't what I'm concerned with since you can customize just about everything. I'm worried about functionality.
Definitely. The customizability is amazing. You can optimize and control every piece of software on your computer. You know exactly what's running and what's installed. The UI is much more flexible as well. The command line is also very very versatile and there are a lot of things you can just do much better with it.
For example: With the distro I use, gentoo, you have a choice of the "1337ness" of your install. You can do a very basic precompiled-everything-will-run-like-windows install, or you can get more hands on. There are 4 levels of control. I usually use the most hands on, called a stage 1 install. For this you boot off the cd, clean a partition, and then you download the source code for the compilers and to set up optimizations for your specific hardware. You use the live cd to compile the compilers. You then use your custom compilers to recompile new compilers according to your optimizations. Stage 1 done.
For stage 2 you download the source code for the OS and all the utilities and compile it all using your custom compiler and optimizations. Stage 2 done.
For stage 3 you download and compile the source for any miscellaneous programs you want.
After a few more system setup steps you're good to boot of your new install.
After it's up and running it's very easy to keep up to date too. No more having to go to sites to find out if they've updated something.
emerge sync
emerge -UD world
upgrades every single piece of software on your system to the newest version available. Every single one. All your programs, your kernel, your GUI, web browsers... everything. It's all custom compiled from source too.
But that's just gentoo. There are many other distros which, under the hood, offer the same level of control. Then again there are others which are very point-and-click like windows is. You can get full featured 2 GB+ installs, or you can get a fully working distro with kernel, ftp and http servers, an audio streamer, a video streamer, and a few other things in a 661 KB file you can stick on a floppy.
Smoothwall is a stripped down, very secure version of linux that turns an old Pentium 133 into an extremely powerful router/firewall complete with a webmin interface.
Serving, messing around... you can pretty much do it all with linux. I'd recommend getting VMWare (they have a free 30 day trial available for anyone) and installing something like mandrake on it to get an idea of how it works.

Back on topic and just fyi:
I just did an emerge -UD world tonight in gentoo. That's the command that updates every single piece of software on my system.
147 programs have updates. I just did a full install 2 weeks ago. Pretty quick on the updates eh?

I love the Canadian eh! ROFL!!!
When I get more time I might set up a partition and try it out. I'm not very savvy though. Used unix and hated it in college.
