Hi, I am new at window 2000, I just install it two days ago, everything is fine. but I can't disable the starup program. such as (direct cd from easy cd creator) and couple other useless program eating up my memory. I know where to go in win98 but I can't find it any where in win2000. can someone give me a tip?
thank you. but doesn't win2000 have it own startup menu just like that? why can't I find it. or win2000 didn't have that menu like win98 does?
just would like to know.
The menu you are referring to is MSCONFIG.EXE, which was listed as the System Configuration Utility in Win98. And no, this utility was not included in Win2K.
There are other options for accessing the items that load from the Registry in Win2K, such as copying MSCONFIG from Win98 into Win2K (which I wouldn't recommend, as this is a 16-bit program), and there is also a version of MSCONFIG taken from a beta of WinXP that will run in Win2K. You can also manually edit the Registry entries.
But there is no System Configuration Utility by default in Win2K. This is why I pointed you toward a simple freeware program that would allow you to access these items without difficulty, and even restore them if necessary.
last question if you don't mind.
how do I edit registry?
start > run > "commend" and enter?
the reason I ask this is becuase I fix a lot of system for friend of mine who own a computer store (warrnty and tech support is included with all the system he sale which more headache for us). just in case if I don't have this utility on hand I can still get into the registry and work with it.
