Set Affinity and Priority?

Hello,Does anyone know how to force a program/process to startup w/ a spicific priority (high) and assign it to a specific processor (ie.CPU 0 only in dual AMD setup) affinity? I can do this when process is running in task manager, however, when app closes/restarts or I reboot, it goes back to defaults (normal, both cpus). I have ATI AIW Radeon and TV tuner/file player/etc all lock tight if both CPUs are selected and drop frames if priority HIGH is not used when capturing video. Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds to me that you need a program like this one:

Thanks for the reply. It sounds interesting. I will try that, however, I don't know if this lets me change the priority/affinity as soon as the process starts. What happens is the ATIMMC.exe process that runs the ATI TV tuner, file player, CD, player, etc. If I simply launch the TV, it will lock tight right away. I have to open ATI file player w/ no file then quickly go to task manager and set affinity to CPU 0 or it will lock. Does anyone know how I can maybe set it in the registry?

Yes... check your help files for the "start" command. It will allow you to start a process with a defined priority via a command line switch. I don't believe it lets you fool with affinity though. I think you can only do that through task manager or with a third party app.

Generally speaking fooling with affinity doesn't produce the results you expect. The OS is just damn good at juggling threads and human intervention doesn't often help. Priority is a different story..
