when will the new mram debut? I heard its way way better than what's out right now... in fact, i read about this 2 yrs ago in a popular science magazine, but i forgot when they said this was going to come out. Does anyone know? If so, what'll be the pros/cons compared to other ram???

That’s the magnetic stuff, right? If so that’s a long way off. 2-3 years at least from what I have heard. And even then some thing different all together may be around. That stuff may never see light of day. Its like the polymer CD's that could store Petra Bytes (I think thats how its spelt. 1PB = 1000TB and one TB = 1000GB). Not going happen soon.

Now thats what I want to know!

Hell, I'd settle for one of those multi-layered CDs that only holds 1TB.

Of course, they'll never see the light of day if for no other reason than because the RIAA will be pissed that you could rip a bunch of DVDs onto a single CD. Heh heh. And damn if you first converted them to DivX... A whole library of DVD rips on a single CD? I think wholesale assassinations will occur before the RIAA lets that kind of technology get out there. ;)

Seriously though, a little new tech would be nice, but unfortunately it seems at least another year off for anything major in the memory or burner scene. Though that new Yahaha CRW-F1 burner with DiscT@2 looks cute. :) I'll have to get one of them if I ever manage to build a new system.

Meanwhile, I'm still impressed by the Kinston 5ns DDR333 DIMMs and looking for the holy-grail of RDRAM: 30ns PC1066. :)

What kind of MRAM? There are a few I can think of off the top of my head that have the acronym MRAM.

So tell me what type you are talking about...like...

Sure Petra Bytes, but they did have one song, "God gave rock and roll to you", that was good enough to get KISS to do a remake.

If this is what you're talking about, it's a replacement for NVRAM and a darn good one. Could be out pretty soon. Check out this address for more info.

My point was that all of these are built on the same principle of the magnetic bubble.

The all have different names because of which company or joint venture is doing the research and production.

They are all forms of Megneto-sensitive Random Access Memory.
