I find networking very difficult to understand beyond basic. I am looking at two different N600 Wireless Dual Band Routers. One has 4 x 10/100M LAN the other has 4 x 10/100/1000M LAN. The boards I would connect to all allow for GB LAN. My question is: If all I do is transfer files or watch a movie on another computer do I need to have 1000M LAN? Why would I need 1000M ?

Any light that could be shed on this for me will be appreciated.

Thank you.

100Mbit would be fine for streaming a video off another machine, but copying the file would be much faster over the 1000Mbit connection. Basically one is 10x as fast as the other, but that speed isn't needed for most things.
