Ok. I am in the market for a new video card. Price isn't really an issue, but I usually go 1-2 years between upgrades so I need something that won't be obsolete in a short period.

Want: AGP4x, 1.5V card, at least 64MB

Initially, I was thinking about getting the new Radeon 9700, but with the new nvida cards just around the corner, I am now thinking about getting maybe a cheap Radeon 7500 for around $100, then get a new nvida card in Dec/Feb when they are released.

Any helpful suggestions?

oh, uh, I have a Gigabyte GA-8IHXP, P4 2.26GHz, 512MB PC1066 Rambus.

Thanks in advance.

I can only see ATI's driver department getting better over the coming months, with the switch to OEM manufacturers. IMHO I'd stick to the 9700.

If you are looking for a cheap alternative card, try the Geforce 4 4200. You can pick them up for roughly £100, and its a lot quicker than Radeon 7500. Would also suit your PC a lot better. Secondly I don't think there will be many games out to take advantage of the Radeon 9700 for about 6-12 months. By this time the next generation cards will be out.

A graphics card is only as good as the software to show it off. Unless you trying to play GTA3 on a TNT2 card.

Shoot me, I work for PC World!!!!
