My 11-year-old daughter is enjoying Syberia, but she needs quite a lot of
help. Could someone suggest some games, verging on grown-up stuff, that
would give her enjoyment and me a little peace. She is getting right into
adventure, and I want to encourage her in the best genre.

Torins Passage comes to mind. Its a good game for your daughter's age
and good for adults too. She might also like Kings Quest 6 and 7.
Depending on your daughter, she may need some help from you on these
games, or get hints from http://www.uhs-hints.com/ which gives you hints
just on the areas you are stuck on. These games are probably hard to
find now though, but check Ebay if interested.

I'm going in the wrong direction here (away from grown-uppiness), so
this may not suit.

If (and this is a big if) SpongeBob is not too childish for her, the
SpongeBob The Movie game is not bad. My 6 yo is playing and enjoying
it, though some of the puzzles require him to keep a bit too much info
in his head at one time, so he needs hints. There are also a couple of
mildly annoying pixel hunts.

As with anything SpongeBob, if she hates him, don't bother, but if she
likes him, she'll enjoy the game even if it's too easy for an 11 yo.

Note that the SpongeBob Movie game for PC is different than the one for
consoles; the console one is an actiony games.

I'm sure you're aware that there are two Syberia games, the first one and
its sequel.

I think she would probably enjoy Beyond Good and Evil very much - a fun,
light hearted action adventure game with a young female protagonist - but
it's rated Teen for some reason so it's your call.

I'll provisionally recommend the Nancy Drew series of games. They are
enjoyable, but I haven't played them in "Junior Detective mode", so I don't
really know if they would work for an 11-year-old.

I was pretty much in love with Myst/Riven when I was that age...

Maybe Broken Sword 1/2 would be good to start with as well, or Grim
Fandango - everyone loves that!

I thought the first Simon the Sorcerer was a better game than Simon 2.
Just my opinion.
Haven't seen you around here for a long time Linda. How are things?

Just got back from a short break, so thanks for all the input, all great
suggestions, I think Lucas Arts wins.

I think the Lucas Arts games, despite being some of the very best ones out
there, are not really suited for an 11 year old girl - they're far too
difficult and most of the humor and dialogue will go right over her head.

The Nancy Drew games and some of the others mentioned in this thread would
be far better, imho.

Thanks again. I'll try to get some Nancy Drew for her, and perhaps leave LA
for later. That's the reason I wrote in the first place, I still think LA
made the best and funniest adventures, but that's me and not a young lady.

Don't get the latest Nancy Drew game (Curse of Blackmoor Manor). It's a
great game, but noticeably more difficult than the other games in the
series.

Check out the compatibility list. All the games listed are good games
to play.
