Netgear Model 7550 connection with kindle

I just recieved the netgear modem model 7550 from frontier. when i try to connect to the wifi i get a message saying that it is connected but there is a lock symbol on the wifi icon. i have entered in the password but it does not change anything

the lock symbol only indicates that the wireless is password protected. This symbol will not change even if you enter the right password.

the only way to tell if you entered the right password is if your computer recieved an IP from the router.
