with a 64 bit OS your 32 bit applications will be installed in the c program files (x86) directory while your 64 bit apps the apps will be installed in the program files folder

You are mistaken. 32 bit software works fine on 64 bit systems. It's 32 bit drivers which do not work on 64 bit systems. If there aren't any 64 bit drivers for your hardware, then it's time to get new hardware that the manufacturer is actually supporting.
