I just put a dvd drive in my computer (Liteon 163D). Whenever I play a dvd, both the audio and video "jitter",or snag breifly (this is a continuos event, not intermittent). I also get this problem with audio cd's played off of this drive (although it is only intermittent). After I installed the DVD drive, I now also get the same jitter with audio on my normal cd-rom drive.

here are my spec's:

Intel p4 1.8 GHz (SL63X)
512 MB DDR SDRAM (2.0 CAS)
SOYO P4S Dragon-Ultra
C-Media CMI8738 (integrated sound)
High Point HPT372 (integrated RAID)
SiS 900 (integrated NIC)
Western Digital WD200BB (20 GB)
one old, crappy Diamond Monster Fusion with a bad fan
an unidentifiable 56k modem with an Intel chipset.

The only thing I can think of that might be causing this problem is the fact that I have bothe the DVD and CD-ROM drives on the same IDE channel (DVD master, CD slave), but I had this problem without the CD-ROM drive attached. Could it be my obsolete video card?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Check that DMA is enabled, I don´t whink that having the DVD and CD on the same
cable would cause jitter, it does´nt on my computer anyway.

I´m not sure if you´re graphicscard can cause the problems you mention, I believe
that watching DVD´s is more processor dependent than graphicscard.

Lastly, what program are you using when watching movies?
I´m running both Win98 and WinXP...I have PowerDVD and it works perfectly
under WinXP but not in Win98 (I get jitter and stuff, might be that it is "especially"
written for XP, I dunno)
