I was wondering if anyone had some experience with Evercase cases. I'm looking at a 2U case on Newegg (http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/radeon8500le/index.html), but at $166 /w the 300W P/S, it seems a bit questionable. The other 2U case they have is by AMS, but its $180 w/o P/S, or $280 with a 300W P/S. If the Evercase is good, I can't pass it up, but I can't afford a crappy case either. The system that goes in it is going into an audio rack that will probably take some abuse as it travels from home to stage and back, and I really don't want to be ripping it apart at every venue I gig at. Thanks.

Have you considered a 3U case yet? These are the smallest cases that can take full height cards mounted vertically.

I've considered 3U and 1U. I decided against the 1U because of the cost for mobos with slanted memory slots to fit. I could go with the 3U, but that takes up half my rack real estate. This is going into a SKB Mini Gig Rig, which only has 6 spaces in the front (had I only realized then how useful the 10-space would be). I already have 3 filled up with a line conditioner, audio interface, and MIDI interface.

The 2U really is perfect cause it gives me a temporary spare space (until I fill it). I'm not too worried about the vertical mounting, I can get away with just adding a IEEE1394 card and get the rest integrated to the mobo. I've been pricing the system out at Newegg, and along with a 15" LCD screen, I've managed to stay under $900, and my goal was to be cheaper than a laptop.

Thanks for the thought though. If I didn't have to worry about space or needed to add more than 2 cards, I would go 3U.
