bass directivity with basket-type windscreens

Yesterday i tried a 50 mm basket-type windscreen with only nylon
fabric with my cardoid mics. I was surprised to have a substantial
reduction of the low frequencies behind the mic and not in front of
it.
So the mic seems to be more directionnal in the bass with this
windscreen.

Do you have an explanation ?
