I know that there are a lot of military/retired military here. When is the last time the US took out 7 battle groups for war games? Isn't that much "larger" than normally done?

I have no idea, but that sounds huge! Maybe they're doing it now before the Stennis and Reagan head back to San Diego.

Do you realize that half of the US fleet is probabbly bigger than any other countries fleet in the world. I read another article that suggest they may be being moved becouse of terriost threat, can't confirm that.

The Stennis and Reagan had been alternating patrols before each in turn went back to San Diego, but one had a fire last year and was slightly crippled at sea but they still had their own battle group to protect them.

The U.S Agias missile cruisers are loaded to the top with defensive missiles however they have one central computer for each ship and when the computer goes down for a technical problem they cant fire the weapons. If they had to fire the weapons then they are empty and don't have any left it is a 1 shot deal to defend the carrier.

From what I understand the new Canadian Frigates have 5 different main computers per ship as well as defensive missiles that can be reloaded at sea as well as close inboard ship defences like the Phalanx gun platforms. The ships are smaller but have huge Jet engine's that can run those frigates up to 40 Knots or faster the speed is classified as no other country has ships that fast. They also have smaller diesel engines that they can use at normal speeds that enable the ships to stay at sea 9 times longer then other military ships. They are perfect escort ships for Aircraft and fleet defence and can turn tighter then any other military ships in the world and stop in 1 ships length also something no other Military ship can do in the world.

I think from the technical movie I watched last month on this the U.S is using these new Canadian Frigates as perimeter defences for the U.S battle groups and is more confident in sending carriers and task forces out in larger numbers.

I think these new Canadian state of the art ships are up around the 15 mark for active ships now. I had a friend back in 1988 that was a welder working on them. They are made out of a special aluminium that doesn't burn or heat-up like steal does. The British lost 1 of the new designs in the Falklands war but they had a basic aluminium design and it burnt to the water line after it caught fire.

The Canadian's took the hull design but used different metals in the construction then added electronics and weapons that are so state of the art that the ones that operate the weapons systems of thease ships train in simulators for up to 2 years on dry land before they even get onto the new ships.
