I bought an used pc from auction, now having problem

Hello,
I just got an used Pc from auction today.
I installed it with Xp Pro. I am trying to connect it to my wire modem but it doesn't work.
Please help me to solve this as i am new about computer.

Well, when i got the pc. I just installed the xp professional. The list of drivers that i got from the auction are xp pro, microsofe keyboard an mouse software, nero essential, intel bonus software (contain anti virus programs, desktop utilities, disk keeper home edition, DivX fow windows), Gigabyte graphics accelerator driver and a desktop board floppy disk (even though the pc doen't have a floppy disk).
So i havent installed anything but the xp. So what should i do? Should I install other drivers that I have?
I checked the driver on pc, it said that there's 1394 Net Driver, is it a network driver?
Please help me. As i have no idea about it.

No, the 1394 is your Firewire connection. Go to the PC manufacturer's website and get the LAN driver.
