Hi,

I don't have an ethernet cable tester with me. I have a bunch of laptops here though. I'd like to be able to place a laptop at each end of a cable (in different rooms) and test them to see if they are crossover, straight-through, or non-functioning. Anyone know of any freeware cable testing software that will work on windows xp?

thanks

Some bios have cable testers but I think they are all desktop motherboards.

You likely cannot test cables with a computer this is all done in the chipset and you cannot really change anything. If the PC have gig and auto mdi/mdix they will pretty much come up on any cable you use other than a defective one.
