I have been thinking about getting a new power supply but having read through more posts I realize that I have done nothing to tweak my existing one. I have to admit I didn't even know it was possible. Can anyone give me some advice as to how this is done.

As background, I have an ecs k7vta3 v1 mobo, 1.4ghz t-bird, 40mb ibm 7200rpm drive, 512 pc2100 memory, Inno3d Ti4200 video. I have tried two 300w power supplies, an Allied and a Powerup. With the Powerup I get random lock ups within a few minutes of boot up and with the Allied I have had one lock up in several days. When I put in my old ati Rage video card the system locks up less frequently with the Powerup, and I haven't tried it with the Allied. Thanks for any advice.

dont tweak your powersupply. it wont give you more watts (wich is probly what you need). your problems are more than likely related to a failing psu. tweaking it will only make it die sooner.
