Just thought I'd report a good customer service story.

The elastic on one of my AT8410a shock mounts went bad, so
I emailed Audio-Technica to inquire about purchasing a replacement
elastic. I got a reply saying "send us your address and we'll put
one in the mail for free". I did so, and got the replacement in
today's mail.

I love Neumann, but they need to take note of this excellent customer
service. (In my cheap opinion, their U87 bands are over priced.)

They did that w/ me too, though the envelope they sent had about five
elastic bands. Really stand up of them.

I wonder where I put the envelope with the back-up bands? Hmmm.

My experience has been great as well. They not only repaired an AT4047 for
free when it failed just the far side of warranty and sent bands for the
shockmount, they also actually re-elasticed the entire shockmount when it
went south a year later. All promptly, smilingly, and for free. It's the
best company I ever dealt with, hands down.

I second that- I have a 4040 that is years out of the warranty, and started
making a crackling sound whilst recording- I sent it back to them and they
replaced the capsule and shipped it back to me- all for $40! That is
amazing to me....

I'll 3rd and 4th this, I triped over the stand holding my 4047sv sending it to
the floor (it stoped working all together), it was almost 6 months out of
warranty. I first called them to ask if it could be fixed or would It be
cheeper to just buy a new one. The sales man said to send it to them and they
would fix it, after about 2 weeks or so it was back to me at no charge.

AT rocks!!

Yeah, well, things can change in five years. They told me they no longer made the bands for the AT8410a and wished me good luck finding a replacement. I don't mind paying at all, I just think they should have been able to point me in a direction for a replacement, even if it's a workaround. Hell, even if it's a hair band. I'm sure I'll find the info on my own.

That said, if you have the current AT8410a model, they will replace the band on that (it's one big band instead of four small ones now, apparently).
