Boss BR1600CD

I am considering purchasing the Boss BR1600CD, and I have a couple of
questions:

1. When I burn data to the CD, is it in a format that can be heard immediately
in the cd player my car? Or is the CD in some proprietary format good only for
use with the BR1600CD?

2. The literature says that data can be uploaded to pc via a USB port using
VLINK, but another piece of software (not included) is needed for editting.

I would like to record gigs and play the cd's at home. Is this a complete
package for such a thing?
