I'm adding a Hard Drive to my Asus P2B-DS MB and am having trouble getting past the System Config screen. The computer sees the HD fine on the boot screen but stops at the capacity for the drive on the system config screen.
The HD I'm adding is a Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM. It's being added as a Primary slave drive.
Previous to this HD I had a Quantum 60GB 7200RPM HD working fine on this MB.
I would really like to get this drive to work on this MB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ah Ha! That sounds familiar.
That motherboard is a rater old one isnt it?
My best guess is that the bios is having trouble, namely with the capacity of the drive being over 64 or something like that.
In the older boards there were a couple of limitations on drive capacity 33.8Gb, 64Gb etc. Check the manufacturers website for confirmation.
Sometimes a bios flash can fix it, butsometimes you need software like Dynamic drive overlay in order to get the thing to work.
