I'm thinking of buying a new system and i got most if the components figured out, but i'm still not sure which type of memory i should buy:
option 1:

PIV 2,4
Asus P4T533-c
2x256MB RIMM PC600/800
GF4 4200 TI 128Mb DDR

option 2
PIV 2,4
Asus P4T533
2x256MB RIMM PC4200/1066
GF4 4200 TI 128Mb DDR

I know the second option gives me a faster system, but it will also cost me about €220 extra.
Is this worth the extra money, or is it just a small improvement and not really worth the extra cash?

Please let me know what you all think!

Greetings

For the difference in the cash you could go for a 4600 or a 9700.

That's what I would do.

Yes, I'd save the money for a better graphics card instead.

GRRR, naming schemes:
16-bit RDRAM is PC600/PC800 etc.
32-bit RDRAM is RIMM4200, etc.

PC1066 won't work on the P4T533, only RIMM4200 will.

PC1066 WILL work on the P4T533-C, so would PC800, but PC600 WON'T unless you use the lower speed 400 bus 2.4 (as oposed to the 533 bus version) and an improper configuration of 3x with that slower bus speed. This would be slower than a DDR system with the same CPU.

Well PC1066 will give you the best performance, but at a price. If you want a decent compromise you should check out the latest SiS chipsets for the P4 wich run PC2700/PC3200 DDR ram.

Just dont get PC600.
