I know there are similar posts out there, but none of them provided a concrete answers. Meaning, no definite choices were given.

A month ago, I bought Plextor 40X writer and had the worst cd writing experience in my life. Some of the errors were: corrupted data that were burnt in the cd, buffer underuns and no seek complete. So I decided to return back the writer and change it into a new one. I heard Plextor 48X has improved alot, but the Yamaha F1(though 44x) seems to be a good choice also. I would like to ask which do you think will give best writing performance. I am usually burning DivX and MP3s.

what kind of burning will you be doing?!?! regular backups? Cd one to one backups? backups of your games? of audio cd's? is speed a factor for your!?? need more info.

The greatest risk of all is not taking one!

Get whichever one is more expensive. You get what you pay for.

That is all.

As i said, I usually burn DivX movies and mp3s. In addition to this, I occationally burn softwares, etc. For speed, I would say its a important factor but quality and reliability is more important.

The Plextor, because Yamaha's for some reason doesn't support slower burning speeds. You would always want the option of having to burn at slower speeds just in case you would have to lets say overburn. Also, Plextor's are very reliable. As for burning software, I highly don't recommend any of these two. I would recommend Lite-On for backing up any cd's that are yours, even if they are audio, VCD's, or software.
