i'm putting a new machine together tomorrow and it has promise raid built into the mobo (gigabyte 8pe667 ultra). i plan on diabling this feature.

my question is: when i disable raid it does not diable the ide 3,4 ports and therfore i will be able to have 4 master and 4 slave ide devices?

thanks in advance

If you disable the RAID controller, you disable it completely. Hence, you are only left with the normal IDE controller where you can put 2 master and 2 slave devices.
If you want to use the RAID controller, but not the RAID functionality, you should leave it enable. Just connect your drives to the RAID controller without creating an array.

I think Hammer covered it pretty well.
You can use the onboard RAID channels as just standard IDE channels by pluggin in the drives and NOT creating any raid array.

It Worked for me on my 8K3A+ with promise onboard RAID.
Enable the promise controller in the bios, plug in the drive, and let windows detect it. VIOLA

i have windows installed already, but i want to reformt and start over from scratch. I have tried to do this and delete all arrays... bu tthen windows wont find drive to install. The very first time i installed on my SINXP1394 i did not need to install 3rd part raid drivers... is there a way to delete them to get that back to how it was?

i had tried a raid... but it was slower with my baraccuda IV's.... so i reformatted again, but now it seems way slower than it was origanaly. thanks alot

best bios error...."no keyboard detected.... press F1 to continue....."

probably the easiest thing to do is to move the drive to a standard IDE channel, install the OS and raid drivers then move the drive to the raid channel.
