i have a Sony GRX650 Laptop...it has a Toshiba MK3018GAS hard drive in it and it's starting to make this loud metallic clicking sound. I've experienced this before with a different laptop and different hard drive. could it be something i'm putting on these computers? please help!
i've already ghosted this drive onto a different computer. do you know what i can do to fix this thing? it's happened to me before and it seems like it's a hex or something. i've been through TONS of hard drives with my old dell. it was crazy! someone please help me...i'm tired of killing these things
I don't think there is much you can do to fix the drive once it has started giving you the death-rattle. I'm sure the drive is dead, sorry .
HDs in laptops are significantly more exposed to vibrations than HDs in stationary machines, obviously. So they do last much shorter.
Do you transport your laptop often, like carrying it back and forth to work everyday? ...in a car, on a bumpy road?
You know you shouldn't transport the laptop when its powered on, right?
How long time did the drive live anyway?

do you have any suggestions on how i can carry this thing to school with me everyday? i drive to school and back everyday...i can't really avoid the bumps in the road. and i have to carry it around with me to every class because 1) i need it and 2) i don't want it stolen.
