I'm experiencing a problem with almost any DAW program I tried until now.
What I've noticed is that the playback of audio actually recorded on HD is
sensibly brighter than what I hear during direct input monitoring. I made
some tests using Logic Platinum and Sonar 4 PE (WinXP) with various mixer
configurations: ie audio chain passing thru plugin FX or going directly to
master output, with both ASIO and WDM audio drivers, all at 24 bits 48kHz
and 96kHz. Monitoring and playback signals follow the exact same audio path
no external gear is introduced, I'm using an Echo Layla24 connected directly
via balanced audio cable to a pair of Genelec 1030A Monitors. In all of
these tests I had the same results the recorded audio has a high frequency
boost. Anybody as a clue about what's going on?
Thanks in advance.

Paolo

Sounds like pre-emphasis is engaged on recording and not being de-emphasized
on playback. Check to see if the pre-emphasis flag is getting mangled
somewhere.

....Anybody as a clue about what's going on?

Brightness is the classic jitter symptom.

There's no substitute for a jitter proof D to A converter if you are using a
workstation. I recommend Benchmark Media or Lavry.
