old video card and monitor

Hello All,
I need your assistance. I am in the process of upgrading a friends old machine with new MB and processor. (Chaintech MB and duron 1.3 ghz cpu) Since his cash supply is quite limited I am trying to re-use as much as possible. I installed the old video card (Trident something or other) in the new MB and it works great with my ev910 gateway monitor However, when I try to use his old monitor (1441v Leading technologies) No go, just the scrambled screen no matter what resolution I use. Any suggestions on what I may be missing?

Yes, you need to drop the refresh rate, probably to 60Hz, hopefully it can support something slightly higher.
