I have a webstar cable modem and a Netgear WRN5000L router. I am trying to view q-see dvr/cameras remotely through the web. I have a dynamic IP address that I am trying to see by using canyouseeme.org. I'm trying to find an open port to access the cameras through. I keep getting the error message "Error: I could not see your service on x.x.x.x on port (80)
Reason: Connection timed out. I've tried various port #'s and can not find one that will work. Any suggestions ? I believe my cable company is blocking many ports. How do I find an open one ?

first use DDNS instate of the IP

second use any external port above 1024 (do not use 8080) and forward it to internal port 80

ie.: 5080 to 5080 -> DVR IP 80

then in your browser you type "dvrname.myddnsservice.com:5080" and it should connect you to your DVR behind the router

Thanks for the help. So I seem to be a little closer....but not quite there...

I used the DDNS provided by the camera manufacturer. I used the external port of 6038 and forwarded that to internal port 85 (my ISP blocks 80). The default for the dvr is 6036 but the Netgear router won't let me forward to that port. Says there's a conflict with another service which I can't see, I can get to the login screen of the dvr but it says "connect failed" when try to log in. I still think I'm missing something in the port forwarding screen. I do get a "Success" message when I check the open port 6038 on my IP address. My port forwarding screen looks like this:

Service Name External Start Port External End Port Internal Start Port Internal End Port Internal IP Address
1 http 5920 5921 85 86 192.168.1.100
2 http1 6038 6039 85 86 192.168.1.100
3 HTTP 80 80 80 80 192.168.1.150
