I searched for previous answers, couldn't find one for this particular question

Currently have win Vista Home Premium 64-bit OEM license. Have product key, don't have boot disc.

Eventually need a new hard drive, failed on last systems diagnostic scan, they are cheap again anyways, so why not

About to buy Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade because I have a great deal through my school.

Question: If I do this upgrade and then in two weeks replace my hard drive, what would the process be to install Windows 7 Ultimate on the new hard drive? Would I only need the boot disc, or would I need to contact HP and get a copy of my Vista boot disc which I lost?

I read through that article. Interesting advice there, though it still leaves one question for me.

In order for this method to work, would I need to buy the new hard drive, install windows 7 on the new hard drive as a clean install, and then remove the bad hard drive with Windows Vista after I have Windows 7 up and running on a clean install?
