I need a way to get my printer HP 540 to be compatible with Windows 7, any method I am willing to try so this economical printer will work. HP offers no support, no interest in the earlier products or customers. Greatful for any and all help.

You may be able to get it to wark with the deskjet 600 driver in add a printer in win 7. How are you connecting the printer?

Unfortunately Deskjet 600 is no longer useful and is the same as the Deskjet 540 model also discontinued

Can try xp driver...but don't think it will work. Still suggest trying dj 600 or 600 monochrome driver in add printer in win 7 has os drivers in list. Other wise you start trying different pcl drivers in add printer and hope for match that will work. If I remember most 700 and some of the 800 series drivers were for host based ( they took out the circut board from the printer and let your cpu do the work) and won't work for you. Welome to the world of non-backward compatability. Good luck in your hunt for solution.
