Question 1) I am wanting to send files to a studio running Digital Performer
4.12... does 4.12 support OMF? (I talked with the engineer, but he is not
sure.)

Question 2) If DP 4.12 does not support OMF, is there another format that I
can send? I have Sonar 4 and Logic 5.5, and I also have access to Nuendo 2
and Samplitude 7. I realize that I could just send WAV files, but it would
be helpful if I could send a packaged format like OMF. Thanks.

Yes. DP 4.x is OMF 2.0 import/export compliant, which means it's 24 bit capable
unlike 1.0 which was limited to 16 bit audio files only.

You probably already know this, but basically all an OMF interchange will get
you is properly placed and named regions and crossfades. It will also contain
automation data, but only the level and pan at the beginning and ending of each
region since it's limited to a "clip based" automation scheme. So it's useless
for most DAW mix files which almost invariably have gain changes all over the
place.

All other settings such as plugins, output assigns, buses, groups etc. are
ignored by OMF. It would be nice if a future update of OMF could incorporate at
least some of these things. It doesn't now mainly because its roots (and much
of its user base) are in video applications like Avid and Final Cut Pro, which
for the most part don't have those kinds of features.

That's good news... thanks so much. The engineer at the studio running DP is
more an engineer than a computer tech, and he primarily deals with in-house
projects, so he wasn't sure if he could import OMF.

Yes, I knew about most of these limitations, but I am just sending him dry
bass ( and maybe guitar) tracks, synced to drum tracks, so basically all we
need is to have all WAV files in sync, and I was wanting to send an OMF so
he didn't have to spend time aligning separate WAV files. Thnaks again.
