Is the Audigy 2 free from the crackling and IRQ problems that exist with the SB Live! 5.1? I've been trying to cope with these bugs, but I think it's time to dump the Live! 5.1. Will the Audigy 2 be a fix?

I just updated to the Audigy and it sounds great to me. Make sure the Audigy 2 you get are gold plated for the speaker inputs.

Actually the purpose of the gold is to resist corrosion. It has negligible impact on sound quality. However, the cheaper OEM version with the steel connectors isn't out yet so gold is the only option at the moment!

defleppard,

Do you have a motherboard with the VIA chipset and Windows XP? I believe these were the main causes of crackling and crashes with the Live! 5.1.
