ok...i recently found an old (i'd say from about the 60's)telefunken
u47m in my fathers house. i researched it on the internet and found
that it's worth a whole lot of money. problem is, i don't have the
power supply and it has some wierd cables with it that won't work with
my stuff. my question is- Is it worth it for me to revamp this mic,
or to just sell it? also...will it work with just regular phantom
power? oh and one more thing...how does it sound??? thanks for you
time, sean

What do you do? Do you have a studio and record regularly? Do you view
engineering as an art? If yes, then you should. Getting these things
working again alwasy costs more that it seem like it shold, but once
you do there's a chance that you end up with a once in a lifetime
piece of gear that you can't replace for any amount of money.

If no, then sell it for as much as you can get.

No, sell it for a sane price, give someone a bargain, and help stop
microphone inflation.

Actually, I would recommend getting a power supply and cable whether
you (the original poster) intends to sell it or not. Someone has a U47
power supply up for auction right now, posted here just a day or so
ago. The reason why it's a good idea go be able to sell the complete
system is that you can be sure that it works (or at least accurately
state its condition), and you don't raise suspicions that it's a
stolen item - many thieves aren't smart enough to steal an external
power supply that goes with the mic.
