Hey there,

I am looking for dimensions and bolting patterns for the new up and coming serial hard drives. I also need to know clearances for removal and maintenance. Also air flow requirements may be needed. I am making a computer from scratch and need this info. Does anyone know where to find this stuff online?

Thanks in advance,

I would expect that these are compatiable with parrallel ATA drives. How else can people upgrade to serial ATA without changing the case as well?

Yes, these will be compatable with Serial ATA drives when they first come out on the market. The great thing about them thought is the length of cable between motherboard and Hard Drive.

Check it out here:

I just need the overall dimensions as well as the bloting pattern for them so I can customize my computer desk to hold them where I want them to be placed.

Get a parallel drive. Measure its dimensions and its mounting holes.
The serial drives will be exactly the same, just with a different rear connector and a different design for the PCB.

Yeah,

I would do that but I'ld prefer getting EXACT dimensions and bolting locations. This will be a very exact design that I intend to make. I don't want any discrepencies whatsoever.

It must be precise.

Use a parallel drive! seriously!
The bolt holes ain't gonna move by a millimeter!

Why would that change the holes and drive width/height meaning it would no longer fit in ALL the current cases? That would be madness.

The only thing which might change is the length by a few mm. The width and height also have to stay the same to fit the 3.5" drive bay.

Umm,

Just curious, are you a designer? Because it really doesn't seem like it.

I'm trying to design something that MUST BE EXACT.

If you can't wrap your head around the concept, then don't waste people's time.

Uh... oooooooookay
I was just trying to save you time.
I have seen enough pictures of S-ATA drives side by side with P-ATA drives to see that the ONLY difference is the connectors.

But since you don't believe me, maybe you would believe an official S-ATA PDF?

Sorry man,

I'm just getting cheesed that I can't find what I'm looking for and no one out there is able to help with what I really need.

I'm also looking for a bolting pattern for standard motherboards because I'm trying to design a new desk for myself. If it turns out to be really nice, I might try to market and sell it retail. That's why I need these items to be EXACT from a manufacturer or someone who builds cases.

I have several old ATX cases and could try figuring out the dimensions myself, but if I get something wrong I'll have wasted time, money and materials. Three things I'm not really willing to waste.

My overall design idea is to have an L-shaped desk, with the monitor in the corner. There will be an elevated platform on which the monitor sits. Inside this elevated platform will be my CD, DVD and floppy drives, right in front of my keyboard. There will also be pre-determined locations for Mouse and keyboard transmitter, web cam, speakers (including sub woofer), foot rest, joystick, and a pile of other items. I'm starting to look for exact mesurements and dimensions of different items (lots I already own but having the manufacturer's info would be more exact).

Sorry again, but I'm getting frustrated with some people's repies. I'm looking for something in particular and people keep telling me to fudge it a bit by measuring myself. I have a post in the motherboard section too, and that's what's been happening all along.

Thanks for your understanding. Sorry for loosing my cool.

Hmmm. Well... Just remember, google is your friend.
I've had a number of Motherboards that vary a couple of their bolt locations depending on how well it adheres to the ATX specification. Could be tricky.
Here are a few possible starts for you

Thank-you so much,

The ATX motherboard form factors has some of what I require. I am so glad to see that you could help me out with some of my requirements.

I'll be able to start with some of my designs now.

I am starting to feel a bit better. The queazyness in my stomach is going away.
