Main studio monitors or ..?

I don't see how you can say that your going down in quality if you use Meyer
equipment. I would say that you should look into an SR speaker system (JBL is
likely the most popular) as they are designed for that application.
I did once set up my active Tannoy Reveals and 10" Tannoy sub (also active) in
a room as a PA (just music) but the room was small (about 20' X 40' ), all and
all it worked good but this was not what Tannoy built them for.

PA speakers and studiomains are designed with different
goals/compromises in mind. JBL is out of the question (heard only one
system I liked, the biggest Vertec line array, but that's out of the
question here).

I can see that, but on the other hand, the Genelec mains are specced 136
dB at 2 meter, 7 of these beasts should be able to cover the room, no?
Maybe soffit mounting the front speakers would help also.

JBL is (for the most part) the most common speaker system in the SR bizz, they
are good and as you stated the new V-array system is getting high marks. It is
a high end setup, but I assumed that price was not a problem for the OP as he
spoke of a Meyer system (also high end).
RCF makes a great sounding speaker (not sure of the model #) that is highly
portable, I worked with a company that had 4 of them, self powered and good to
the ear. They carry a hefty price tag, under $1200.00 pair (if I remember
correctly) for a 15" coax.
