DDR 400 and P4

I was thinking of buying a new system and im currently deciding between a P4 2.53 or a AMD 2600.
I gonna use DDR333 or 400M,havnt decided yet.
What i understand is that AMD boards can only handle one DDR400 or the memory speed will be lowered to 333 and so on. Is the same true for the P4 boards and especially the SiS 648 ones?
Any why does the speed lower at all?

If you buy any cpu soon wait 2 week there a price cut coming.2600+ is not avaible on the market.Pc2700 pr DDR400 the last dont work often so yes go with Pc2700 cas 2 brand name (that dont include OCZ geil and others cheap).
AMD boards can use DDR 400 but only decrease of performance happen the cpu can not use more that DDR 266 or Pc 2100 , DDR 2700 for AXP 2700+ 2800+ (also not avaible on the market).

P4 can use any memory to it max except RIMM 4800 (not avaible on the market) and dual channel Pc2700 (no chipset support this setting for now.

Any why does the speed lower at all?

On computer hardware the slowest link will set performance on the chain of information.



Now what to do??
